How to Calculate Your Age
An age calculator finds your exact age by measuring the difference between your date of birth and today's date (or any target date). The result is expressed in years, months, and remaining days — the most natural way people think about age.
The Age Formula
Age calculation seems simple but has important edge cases around month lengths and leap years. The standard approach:
A more accurate method counts calendar months directly, adjusting for whether the birth day has passed in the current month.
Why Does Age Calculation Get Complex?
Different months have 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. Leap years add an extra day every 4 years (with century exceptions). This means the gap between two dates isn't always a clean multiple of any fixed period. Our calculator handles all edge cases including February 29 birthdays.
Age in Different Cultures
In most Western countries, age increases on the anniversary of your birth. In South Korea, everyone turns one year older on January 1st, and babies start at age 1. In East Asian traditional reckoning, a newborn is already "one year old." Our calculator uses the international standard (Western) method.
How to Use This Calculator
Simply enter your date of birth using the date picker above. The calculator will instantly show your age in years, months, and days, plus your total age in weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. You can also select a custom "age as of" date to calculate your age on a specific past or future date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Subtract your birth date from today's date to get the total number of days. Our calculator does this automatically and shows your total days lived in the stats section above. For example, a 30-year-old person has lived approximately 10,950 days.
Leap day birthdays are celebrated on February 28 or March 1 in non-leap years, depending on the country and personal preference. Our calculator handles leap day births correctly — on non-leap years, it counts your birthday as March 1 for the countdown.
Yes. Just enter their date of birth in the calculator. You can also use the "Age as of" dropdown to check what their age will be on a specific future date, or what their age was on a past date.
In numerology, the life path number is found by adding all the digits of your full birth date (day + month + year) together repeatedly until you reach a single digit (1–9), or the master numbers 11, 22, or 33. For example, born on 15/06/1990: 1+5+0+6+1+9+9+0 = 31 → 3+1 = 4. Life path number is 4.
Western zodiac signs are determined by the calendar date of your birth. Each sign spans roughly 30 days of the year. For example, Aries covers March 21 – April 19, Taurus covers April 20 – May 20, and so on. Our calculator automatically assigns your sign based on your birth date.
The hours, minutes, and seconds shown are calculated from midnight of your birth date to the current moment. Since we don't know your exact birth time, these are estimates based on the start of your birth day. For a true count, you'd need your exact birth hour and minute.
Generations are defined by birth year ranges: Silent Generation (1928–1945), Baby Boomers (1946–1964), Generation X (1965–1980), Millennials (1981–1996), Generation Z (1997–2012), and Generation Alpha (2013–present). These are sociological categories used to study shared cultural experiences.
The total months count is calculated directly from your birth date to today, counting complete calendar months. Because months have different lengths (28 to 31 days), this is slightly more accurate than simply multiplying years by 12 and adding the remaining months.
