How to add and subtract time

Time arithmetic uses base-60 for seconds and minutes (carry at 60), and base-24 for hours (carry at 24). Use the Add tab above to sum multiple durations, or Subtract to find the difference.

Add Example: 1h 45m 30s + 2h 30m 50s Seconds: 30+50=80 → carry 1m, 20s remain Minutes: 45+30+1=76 → carry 1h, 16m remain Hours: 1+2+1=4 Result: 4h 16m 20s Subtract Example: 5h 10m 20s − 2h 45m 50s Seconds: 20−50 → borrow 60: 80−50=30s Minutes: 9−45 → borrow 60: 69−45=24m Hours: 4−2=2 Result: 2h 24m 30s
Multiply & Divide: Convert to total seconds, multiply/divide, then convert back. E.g. 1h 30m × 5 = 5400s × 5 = 27,000s = 7h 30m.

Duration between two dates

The Date Diff mode gives the full breakdown in years, months, weeks, days. The DateTime Diff mode adds hours, minutes, and seconds precision — useful for exact elapsed time calculations.

Add or subtract from a date

The Add to Date mode answers questions like: What date is 90 days from today? What day was 6 months ago? When does a 30/60/90-day period expire?

Note on months: Adding 1 month to January 31 gives February 28/29 — the calculator caps at the last valid day of the resulting month, matching standard calendar behavior.

Business days calculator

Business days are weekdays Monday–Friday, excluding weekends. Enter any two dates and the number of public holidays in range to get an accurate working-day count.

  • Contract deadlines — "30 business days from signing"
  • Shipping estimates — "5–7 business days"
  • Legal notice periods and court filing windows
  • Project sprint planning — days in a sprint

Time zone converter

The Time Zone mode converts any date and time across 28 major world time zones at once. The World Clock shows live current times in 8 major cities, updating every second.

Frequently Asked Questions

Add all seconds first — carry 1 minute per 60 seconds. Add all minutes (including carried) — carry 1 hour per 60 minutes. Add hours. Example: 1h 45m + 2h 30m → minutes: 75 → carry 1h, 15m remain → hours: 4 → Result: 4h 15m.
1 day = 24 hours = 1,440 minutes = 86,400 seconds. 1 week = 7 days = 168 hours. 1 year (average) = 365.25 days = 8,766 hours = 525,960 minutes.
Count all weekdays (Mon–Fri) between the two dates, then subtract public holidays. Use the Business Days tab — enter start and end dates plus any holidays to exclude, and the calculator gives you the exact working-day count.
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global standard. All time zones are defined as offsets from UTC. New York = UTC−5, London = UTC+0, Mumbai = UTC+5:30, Tokyo = UTC+9. Daylight Saving Time shifts some zones by +1 hour seasonally.
Use the "Add to Date" tab — set today as start, select "Add", enter 90 in the Days field, and click Calculate. The result shows the exact date, day of week, and full timestamp 90 days from now.
Click the Stopwatch tab, press Start to begin timing, Lap to record split times, and Pause to stop. Reset clears everything. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, and centiseconds with full lap history.
